Nuno Mendes Raising International Awareness For The Reopening of Viajante

The Portuguese chef, Nuno Mendes remains positive despite not reaching his crowdfunding target of £1.75m in his allotted time. The target, which he set himself back in November 2015, offered investors a 33 per cent equity stake in the business with a minimum investments from £10.

Unfortunately, the Portuguese chef who runs Taberna Do Mercado in Spitalfields market as well as being the executive chef at The Chiltern Firehouse, was not able to reach his target and is seeking investment elsewhere.

He admits that the crowdfunding target was ambitious, but explains that “The crowdfunding campaign was an exciting platform to measure people’s appetite for Viajante, while we did not reach our ambitious target, it has provided such international awareness of the project that we are now exploring other exciting venues of investment.” Watch this space!

The original Viajante site was at Bethnal Green and the restaurant won a Michelin star within a mere eight months of opening back in 2010. At the time is was ranked 59th best restaurant in the world.

In the meantime, Mendes has been keeping busy providing The Guardian with his small plates for summer, expect mouthwatering results.
