Sporting Success

Australia is predominantly known in the sports world for their excellence in rugby. Although the sport was invented in England, dominated in New Zealand and South Africa, and modified in Australia (with Australian Rules Football, or AFL as it commonly referred to). Within the rugby world, it is perhaps Tony Smith who stands out most. Born in New South Wales in 1967, the Australian former player is the Head of Coaching at the English Super League club Warrington Wolves.

He was also announced as the full-time coach of Great Britain and was even named the RLIF Coach of the Year for his impressive season in 2007. However, Australians have proven to stand out in various sports, with a couple of stand-out Australian football players making a mark in European football. Craig Johnson made a household name for himself within the lineups in the 80s - Liverpool being where he was mostly remembered. After retirement he continued life in London driving into the sports business world and working at Adidas alongside the likes of Zinadine Zidane, David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Xavi.

Another notable Australian football player was Harry Kewell who also stood out at Liverpool during six seasons from 2003 to 2008. His most notable achievement is being the only Australian to have ever won a UEFA Champions League final with Liverpool in 2005. While Australia continues to develop in the football culture, the United Kingdom is opening a platform for those wanting to follow dreams in different sports. All it takes is talent and the will to move abroad.
